About the event

The Blairs' farm comprises of around 300 acres of mixed land. Up until recently most was ex arable ground, which is reasonably productive, moving to much heavier and wetter ground, which for the most part is unimproved pasture.

They calved down 91 females this year, however Jonny is reducing that number as he is steering the farm towards a very low input system. Jonny is taking this opportunity to discover which cows are able to adapt to this challenge and thrive under those conditions. They have sown herbal leys in what had been long term arable fields to try and increase biodiversity and soil organic matter.

Also practicing tall grass grazing system, while trying to increase rest and recovery periods between grazings, all under low input conditions.

We will get to see this in practice. We will also learn how Jonny overcame water and other infrastructure hurdles.

On the evening everyone will have the chance to ask questions and discuss ideas of how they could adapt this for themselves.
