Time & Location

01 Jul 2023, 11:30 – 15:30

Jubilee Farm, 50 Glenburn Rd, Glynn, Larne BT40 3JY, UK

About the event

Landworkers' Alliance (LWA) is the UK association which supports sustainable livelihoods and communities working to the principles of agroecology, sustainable forestry and food sovereignity. LWA is part of La Via Campesina (LVC), the international peasants movement with over 200 million members worldwide, which works for the 'International Peasants’ Voice'.

Recently, a Northern Ireland branch of the LWA has been formed by landworkers looking to tackle local and national issues within Northern Ireland. While setting up this branch, we've been working closely with Talamh Beo, the LVC members in the Republic of Ireland.

This first in person meeting will be a chance to meet other LWA members and non-members in Northern Ireland, learn more about the LWA, and think together about what we want the NI branch to achieve.

The hope is that this gathering will create the conditions that allows the seed of the LWA NI to grow, recruiting more members to build our collective power for change.

An informal event is planned at Jubilee Farm, Larne - Northern Ireland's first communtiy owned farm.

And join our growing LWA Northern Ireland Whatsapp group:

Agenda for the day

- Introductions and a short intro to the LWA from Emmott Baddeley from the UK LWA staff team

- Talk and tour of Jubilee Farm from Tim Davies, farm manager

- Pot luck lunch (bring a dish to share)

- LWA Northern Ireland members forum - what ideas do we have to develop the LWA NI branch?

Your questions answered

Do I have to be an LWA member to attend? - No, all are welcome at this meeting with the hope that you'll learn about why being a member of the LWA might support you

What should I bring with me? - Bring whatever you need to be comfortable for the day, we'll be walking outside so check the weather. Brews and biscuits will be provided, and if you'd like to bring a dish to share for the potluck lunch that would be very welcome.
