About the event
Dr Tatiana Stanton, the Cornell University Small Ruminant Extension Specialist, has dedicated her career to advancing the management of sheep and goat herds. Her work bridges the gap between scientific research and on-farm application, particularly in the fields of innovative nutrition, parasite management, and marketing.
In this webinar, she will discuss the intentional integration of trees, livestock, and forages to provide a "buffet" of high-quality nutrition while reducing reliance on chemical fertilisers and commercial feed. Share key insights from Cornell University’s "Goats in the Woods" project, demonstrating how managed browsing can effectively control invasive forest vegetation without the use of chemical herbicides. Discuss how forest canopies mitigate extreme heat and wind, protecting sheep and goat health and boosting reproductive success by reducing heat stress.
Professor Jim McAdam will also present findings on sheep behaviour and performance in the Silvopasture at AFBI Loughgall.
