We had a farm tour with the inspirational Bronagh O'Kane. She was showing us how she is gradually making changes on the farm to improve soil health, she's reducing the use of granular fertilisers with the aim of becoming more sustainable, more nature friendly and more profitable. Small changes across the farm include using Vulkamin power in the animal bedding and additives to the slurry to get the beneficial microbes working. We learned about Bokashi, new to me! Composting with fermentation. We saw lots of worms, sniffed lots of buckets and were completely besotted with the pet lambs. Malachy Hughes from Biome Connect came along to do the science bit, explaining how the systems all work across the whole farm. also has the best barn in the country where we had tea and a good old chat. There may be dancing next time!
