About the event

It is believed that Tannybrake have the only remaining dairy Shorthorn herd in Northern Ireland. Currently milking 18 cows producing approximately 350 litres of milk a day. In comparison to most other dairy farms this is miniscule however they have unique a story to tell alongside our high quality milk. They are so proud of our heritage and the livestock that we care for. Each cow has a name and is treated more like a family pet rather than a dairy cow.  A close-knit family farm where everyone mucks in- including toddlers Lily and Rose.

If you would like to see some content from the farm just search for the hashtag #tannybrakefarm or follow the farm page @tannybrakefarm on Instagram.

Over the past three years they have been working in partnership with Glenarm Castle Estate to start diversifying and selling our milk at a premium to produce ice cream for The Milk Parlour.

Approach to regeneration and sustainability

Ultimately they want to secure a future at Tannybrake farm for our livestock and generations to come. In doing so they want their farm to grow sustainably. Tannybrake aims to achieve a method of farming that not only supports their family but mixes traditional farming with modern farming techniques. Whilst large scale dairies are the norm in Northern Ireland, they believe now is the time for micro dairies to shine and we have the potential to become one.

Tannybrake hopes to achieve:

• Preservation of a native, traditional breed of cow

• Lower food miles

• Local products for local customers

• Ethical farming

• Nothing hidden in the production process

• Farm to fork/spoon

NOTES:

The farm is at the bottom of a share lane, please drive slowly as there are animals and children around.

Go to the bottom of the lane and turn right, park in front of the new build garage.
